AI Coach for Healthcare launches this autumn, helping healthcare professionals use AI safely and effectively

Romion Health and Dr Boudewijn Kessing, gastroenterologist and CMIO at Gelre Hospitals, have entered into a partnership to further develop and launch the AI Coach for Healthcare this autumn. The interactive learning environment helps healthcare professionals learn to use generative AI safely and effectively in realistic healthcare scenarios, with the aim of supporting responsible AI adoption across the sector.
More and more healthcare professionals use generative AI in their daily work, but few have had the opportunity to learn how to do this safely and responsibly. The AI Coach addresses this gap by letting professionals learn AI skills while actually working with AI, rather than through theoretical training alone.
The AI Coach places users in realistic healthcare case studies. While they work, the AI Coach monitors their progress in real time, gives immediate feedback, and adapts to their role, context, and level. Users can interact with the AI Coach in Dutch and other languages.
“To use AI responsibly, AI literacy is essential. Existing solutions are often too long to apply at scale, not healthcare- or role-specific, or too knowledge-focused. With the AI Coach, we believe we can fill an important piece of the puzzle,” said Kicky van Leeuwen, Managing Partner of Romion Health.
The AI Coach was first tested at Gelre Hospitals, where an initial group of healthcare professionals, ranging from nurses to managers, used it as part of a practical AI masterclass. Following this, Romion Health and Dr Kessing organised a test event in Utrecht with AI-literacy experts, innovation managers, CMIOs, AI leads, and other professionals responsible for the safe use of AI. Participants worked with the AI Coach directly and shared feedback on how it can best support AI competence across the healthcare sector.

Romion Health and Dr Kessing are now working together to further develop the AI Coach, with the aim of making it broadly applicable across different healthcare settings. The AI Coach is expected to be available this autumn for hospitals and other healthcare organisations to use.
